53 Week Memory Prompts: Intro and Week One

Image
Memories are made in ordinary moments, yet they often fade if we don’t pause to notice them. The purpose of these 53 memory prompts is to help you slow down, reflect, and capture the stories that make up your life and your family’s story, one small moment at a time. With one prompt for each week of the year, you’ll create a gentle rhythm of remembering. By the end of the year, you won’t just have answered 53 questions, you’ll have 53 preserved memories . Some may be brief, others detailed. Some may surprise you. All of them matter. There is no right or wrong way to record your memories. You might choose to write with pen and paper, type them into a document, record your voice, film a short video, or even share them through photos and captions. What matters most is that you capture them in a way that feels natural and meaningful to you. These prompts are not meant to be overwhelming or perfect. They are an invitation—to remember, to reflect, and to leave behind pieces of your story f...

Where Their Stories Lead

Image
Hello, I am Jaimie, and I created Where Their Stories Lead as a way to preserve the stories from my life and the lives of my ancestors. I received my associate's degree in Family History Research from Brigham Young University-Idaho. During my studies, I developed a love for stories - both fiction and non-fiction. I have learned that Family History is abundantly more than pedigree charts and records (although I love those), it is a way to remember and honor the lives of our ancestors. I truly believe that their stories did not end in the past, but are continued through us. We are a part of an ongoing story of those who came before us and those who will follow. We honor our ancestors by preserving their stories and connecting them to the lives we live today.  Where Their Stories Lead is a small space on the internet where you can find inspiration about how to connect across generations through storytelling and memory-keeping.

Within Reach

Image
After having my first baby, I wanted to keep her close to me. I felt uneasy when she wasn't in my arms. Now she is thirteen, and I still long for her to be near me. However, as she begins to branch out, I hope she knows that I will be within reach. If she needs me, I will be there for her.  I also know that she will always be within reach of the Savior. No one can stray too far that the Savior cannot reach them. Much like with Peter. As we exercise faith in Jesus Christ, we will know to reach for Him when the heaviness of life begins to pull us under.    How do we reach out to the Savior? 1. Prayer - Share your thoughts, feelings, gratitude, and weaknesses. The more we reach out to the Savior in prayer, the more our relationship with him will develop. We will begin to feel like we are communicating with a close friend.  2. Scripture Study - Christ's life is documented within the scriptures. We can read the ways he reached out to those who needed him. If the S...

Games we Played in January 2022

This year, one of my goals is to create more opportunities to spend time together. We already have our Friday night movie night where I make homemade pizza, and then we watch a movie together.  We all enjoy movie night, but I wanted something that would have us talking, laughing, and enjoying each others company without screens. So now we have Sunday night game and dessert night! Each Sunday night, I make a yummy dessert and we sit down together at the table and play a game. With a wide variety of ages, we have to try to find games that are fun for kids and adults. This isn't always successful and I will provide more blog posts of each game we play at a later date. Overall, we have enjoyed all the games we played in January.  Here are the games we played in January 1. Sleeping Queens 2. Catan 3. King of Tokyo 4. Gnoming Around 5. Machi Koro Our family favorite for the month = Machi Koro & King of Tokyo Games we added to our collection in January = Downforce,  K...

Clothing, Covering, and Linen in the Scriptures #2. Coats of Skin

Image
Genesis 3:21 (Moses 4:27) “Unto Adam and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skin, and clothed them.” Notice who clothed Adam and Eve in their coats of skin? While Satan left Adam and Eve to make their fig leaves apron by themselves, God personally clothed them. In order to clothe a person in coats of skin ( presumably ) an animal sacrifice would have had to be made. There is tremendous symbolism in this with regards to our Savior, Jesus Christ. He would perform the ultimate sacrifice and inevitably die for our sins. His atonement is the only thing that will be able to truly "cover" our sins/mistakes. Atonement means to cover. "Each of us can be covered through the atonement of the Savior. A covering that provides warmth, comfort, and blots out our sins." ( YouTube video - Aprons of Fig Leaves and Coats of Skins.) The coats of skin is evidence of God's wisdom being superior to man's. ( Wikipedia ) I love the scripture found in Abraham 2:8, "My ...

Clothing, Covering, and Linen in the Scriptures #1. Fig Leaves

Image
I have always been fascinated with the scripture, "And I did cause that the women should spin, and toil, and work, and work all manner of fine linen, yea, and cloth of every kind, that we might clothe our nakedness; and thus we did prosper in the land - thus we did have continual peace in the land. . . " found in Mosiah 10:5. What did women making clothes have to do with prosperity and peace? I did a mini study on this verse and similar verses which I will share later; however, today, I would like to share my thoughts on a couple verses found in Genesis 4. One talks about Adam and Eve covering themselves with fig leaves and the other mentions God covering Adam and Eve with coats of skin. This is what I learned: At the end of each post, there will be a free printable to use for your own study. Fig Leaves Genesis 3:7 (Moses 4:13) - And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. What did...
